Created in 1993, Fotomuseum Winterthur is dedicated to photography as art form and document. The museum organizes exposures in order to present the work of contemporary artists, as well as works by 19th and 20th century masters. A third orientation relates to the presentation of photographic archives with a cultural-historical and social value.

 
Since 2007, the museum organizes two days of portfolio viewing featuring young emerging European photographers. Forty two participants are invited every year, selected at the suggestion of experts' committee. The event is opened to the public.
