The exhibition brings together works by Swiss artists Julian Charrière, Teresa Chen, Marianne Engel, Alex Hanimann, Angela Lyn, Marcus Maeder, Luca Mengoni, Nico Müller, Felix Studinka and Esther van der Bie, who refer to the theme of the forest, as a space of peaceful nature, terror, resourcing or representing an economic factor.

“Mr Muscle” is a series of ten drawings, fruit of a collaboration between Yann Amstutz and Julien Burri. At first, there are ten men’s images, ten photographies which present worked out, muscular bodies, sometimes signed by famous names, sometimes posted by amateurs on the Internet. The original images disappeared. Only rests the double representation of these photos, as residues, deposits. A track deformed, transformed. Yann Amstutz realized ten drawings without to observe the development of the image during its creation. Julien Burri completed the drawings of short texts. The words wind as a skin around the fragile images, double them, hem them, as would make it a shadow. Drawings and words are two writings which form a net to trap the memory, give to it a body, a sense.

Masquerade is a series of men’s portraits, the peculiarity of which is to present no facial features. Only the pilosity – executed with realism and precision- allows to dread the face of the represented characters. Strange, to see disturbing, these disembodied portraits remind ghosts, masks or death mask. The absence of pulpit evokes the dematerialization, the space, but also the impermanence of the organic matter, the precariousness of the life. By contrast, the facial and capillary pilosity represents the strength of life, as well as the beard of a deceased pursues its growth, some times even after the death of the individual.

“A city and three photographers elected to make the portrait of it. Yann Amstutz, Matthieu Gafsou and Milo Keller, were accomodated in residence at La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, from autumn 2009 to winter 2011, in any season, by day and by night, to capture this city, to make the experiment of it and to question it. A portrait with multiple facets which should surprise as much the inhabitants as that their visitors.”
